From battery supplier to leader in energy transition
For more than 35 years, Intercel has been providing our customers with the right battery every day. Having started out as a wholesaler of AGM batteries, we are now also a producer of customized batteries for the electrification of machinery and a partner in energy storage systems: we are involved in the energy transition across the board!
Three divisions, one character
To keep things clear, we have divided our operations into three divisions:
- Batteries: The original trading arm of Intercel that helps companies in the Netherlands and abroad get the best batteries for their products. View the Intercel Batteries website.
- Electrification: This division designs and manufactures custom batteries for electrifying diesel machinery. Together with our partners, we give these machines a sustainable second life. Check out the Intercel Electrification website.
- ESS: ESS is the abbreviation for “Energy Storage Systems. This division’s mission is to solve the problems surrounding grid congestion: a major challenge resulting from the energy transition. With energy storage systems, we ensure that companies continue to have sufficient (sustainable) power. View the Intercel ESS website.
Our history
From being founded in 1988, in a living room in Bloemendaal, we went to the first official office and warehouse with only four employees in 1990. Between 1990 and 2022, the number of employees grew to 75. This was a period with a rich history of pioneering and steady growth. Now we are standing with both feet in the energy transition and thus on the eve of a new era. With more than 100 colleagues, we are working toward a common goal: a fully electric society.
Our future
We see a major role for ourselves in the changes of our time: in the energy transition, we act as the driving force of electrification and as a guide and partner for all the challenges involved. That is why on March 12, 2024, the first pile went into the ground of the Haarlem Energy HUB: the Netherlands’ largest production complex for customized batteries. The new complex will soon have more than enough space for R&D, production lines, storage, offices and more than 100 colleagues!
With the design of the Haarlem Energy HUB, we are setting a new standard for safe handling of lithium batteries, complete with the latest PGS 37-2 safety standards. We are looking forward to the official opening of the complex expected in the first quarter of 2025.
