Boekel, October 17, 2025 – Van Haandel Metaal is investing in a Dutch battery solution to continue meeting the company’s energy needs. Due to rapid growth and the electrification of production, the family business reached the limits of its contracted capacity at the beginning of 2025. With the installation of two Cellpower batteries by W. Jansen Elektrotechniek, Van Haandel can not only handle peak loads but also continue to grow without being limited by the grid.
Van Haandel Metaal specializes in turning and milling aluminum and plastic. They supply worldwide to various industries, such as mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, the agricultural industry, the construction sector, and camper construction. Due to growth and the transition to electric, the demand for energy has increased significantly in recent years. Four years ago, a new transformer station was already installed, but by early 2025, Van Haandel had still reached the limits of its contracted capacity. “According to the grid operator earlier, the capacity would grow along with the company, but in practice that did not happen,” says Dennis van Haandel, director at Van Haandel Metal. “Last year, our electricity demand exceeded the limit a few times, but increasing the contracted capacity proved impossible.” Because exceeding the limit can lead to fines or even disconnection from the grid, Van Haandel decided to tackle the problem himself.
Trust in Dutch expertise
Together with W. Jansen Elektrotechniek, they looked for a new solution. “For this type of large investment, you need partners who look beyond just a quick sale. We wanted a solution that lasts for years, with reliable service and support in the Netherlands,” explains Stan Jansen, co-owner of the installation company. Additionally, there was time pressure: “It had to happen quickly; the battery installation needed to be operational by October 1.” Specialist in sustainable energy solutions, Alius, works
Specialist in sustainable energy solutions, Alius, regularly collaborates with Intercel, the battery manufacturer behind the brand Cellpower. Their positive experiences gave Jansen the confidence to follow Alius’s advice and purchase the batteries from Intercel. After a visit to Intercel’s brand-new production center in Haarlem, Van Haandel was also convinced of the collaboration: “Intercel is the most transparent in technical capabilities and data. The fact that they are based in the Netherlands and have been around for so long gave me a lot of confidence.”
Continuity in business operations
The installation consists of two battery systems, each with a storage capacity of 261 kWh and a power output of 125 kW, placed outside the transformer room. The system is managed by Embion EMS and provides, among other things, peak shaving as well as optimization of self-consumption. As soon as consumption exceeds the contracted capacity, the battery supplies energy. The battery charges automatically at night. “This solution ensures continuity in operations. We do not want to be dependent on solar energy or a grid that offers no capacity,” says Van Haandel. With the new battery storage, Van Haandel expects to be able to accommodate the company’s natural growth over the next ten years.
