Choosing the right charging concept
A battery system is only as strong as the charging strategy behind it. Off-highway environments vary widely: some machines operate in remote areas, others in shift-based operations where downtime must be zero. Intercel supports three charging concepts, each designed for a different operational reality.

Swapable battery packs
✓ Maximum flexibility
✓ Eliminating downtime entirely
For machines that must operate continuously, a swappable battery pack is ideal. You charge one pack while the other is working, eliminating downtime entirely.
This concept requires:
- Ruggedised housing, designed for frequent handling
- Fully plug-in connections
- robust mechanical interfaces
Swapable packs are more complex, but the productivity benefit is enormous.
Fixed battery pack with onboard charger
✓ Less complex system
✓ No external charging infrastructure needed
The most common and cost-efficient solution is a fixed battery with onboard AC charger.
No external charging infrastructure is needed beyond a standard AC power connection.
We offer onboard chargers in 3 kW, 6 kW, 9 kW, 20 kW or 60 kW, depending on your charging window and power availability.
Perfect for machines that return to a depot, workshop or charging point at predictable intervals.

Fast charging with CCS2
✓ Reduced charging times
✓ Ideal for high-utilisation machines
For operators who need quick turnaround, we support DC fast charging using CCS2, the same technology used for your electric car. This requires upgrades to the BMS and an external fast charger, but dramatically reduces charging times.
Fast charging is ideal for high-utilisation machines or rental fleets.
Charging your off-highway machines
Charging an off-highway machine often requires more than a standard grid connection. Many worksites lack sufficient on-site power or experience fluctuating demand. To support reliable charging in these environments, Intercel offers mobile energy storage systems that deliver stable AC or DC power wherever your machine operates. These units function as standalone charging infrastructure, enabling overnight charging, opportunity charging during shifts, or high-power fast charging when required. The result: predictable energy availability, reduced dependency on the grid and maximised uptime for your electrified equipment.
